Anime4K: Real-Time 4K Neural Upscaling

KuroStream is powered by an integrated 3.5 MB Anime4K shader pipeline compiled natively into WebGPU (WGSL). Unlike standard video players that rely on blurry bilinear stretching, our pipeline executes custom compute passes right on your graphics card to reconstruct sharp line art, eliminate MPEG compression artifacts, and upscale 1080p anime up to 3840×2160 (True 4K) at 60 FPS in real time.

Shader Presets & Estimated GPU Load:
Mode A (Balanced): Deblur + Line Reconstruction • ~18–25% GPU Load • Recommended for 90% of Anime
Mode B (Fast): Lightweight Deblur • ~10–15% GPU Load • Lowest Overhead, Best for Budget GPUs
Mode C (Denoise): Compression Cleanup + Repair • ~22–30% GPU Load • Ideal for Retro & Grainy Streams
Mode A+A (Double Pass): Aggressive Line Recovery • ~65–75% GPU Load • Heavy Multi-Pass
Mode C+A (Ultra Heavy): Multi-Pass Denoise + Upscale • ~85–100% GPU Load • Enthusiast GPUs Only (Can Cause Lag)
speed Why Does 4K Real-Time Render Feel Laggy or Stutter?

Real-time 4K rendering generates 8,294,400 pixels every frame (3840×2160). At 60 FPS, running 8 to 12 neural compute passes requires between 2 to 4 billion mathematical calculations per second.

  • Heavy Preset Selected: Mode CA or Mode AA executes multiple heavy passes that saturate mid-range GPUs. Solution: Switch to Mode A or Mode B.
  • Integrated Graphics (Intel UHD / Iris Xe): Laptops with shared system memory lack the memory bandwidth required for 4K WGSL passes.
  • Hardware Acceleration Disabled: If Chrome or Edge has graphics acceleration turned off, rendering falls back to CPU emulation.
tune How to Enable 4K Enhancement & Optimize Presets:
  1. Launch any anime episode on KuroStream.
  2. Click the Settings Icon (settings) in the video player controls.
  3. Select the SETTINGS menu.
  4. Toggle "Enable Anime4K" to ON.
  5. Under Anime4K Presets, choose Mode A (Balanced) or Mode B (Fast 60fps).

Note: Turned off by default to protect battery on mobile devices. Requires WebGPU support (Chrome 113+, Edge 113+, Brave, or Opera).

Which Anime4K preset should I choose: Mode A, Mode B, or Mode C? expand_more
Mode A is our recommended default for 90% of anime, balancing line reconstruction with moderate GPU load (~20%). Mode B is the fastest preset (~12% GPU load), best for older series and budget graphics cards. Mode C includes debanding and denoise filters for compressed or grainy feeds. Avoid Mode CA / Mode AA unless you possess a high-end dedicated graphics card.
Is Anime4K enhancement truly working on my device? expand_more
Yes! When you enable Anime4K in the player settings (settings → SETTINGS → Enable Anime4K), the player loads our 3.5MB WebGPU shader engine and renders enhanced frames directly onto a dedicated WebGPU canvas over the video. You will immediately notice sharper line boundaries and enhanced clarity. Note: Your browser must support WebGPU (Chrome, Edge, or Brave on desktop).
Why do subtitles disappear during opening themes or quiet scenes? expand_more
Anime subtitles only display when characters are speaking dialogue. During the opening theme song (e.g. 00:15 – 02:15 in One Piece Ep 1) or during moments of silence (like 03:05 – 03:19), no dialogue is spoken, so the screen remains clean. The moment a character speaks, the English subtitle text renders immediately.
Do I need to create an account or pay a subscription to watch? expand_more
No. KuroStream is completely free and requires no registration. Your watch history, bookmarks, and settings are saved automatically in your local browser storage.
How does the Synchronized Watch Party work? expand_more
Below the video player, click the "Watch Together" button to generate a unique room link. Share this link with your friends. Whenever the host presses play, pauses, or seeks forward, all joined participants mirror the action in real time.
How do I switch servers if a video is buffering? expand_more
Move your mouse over the top right corner of the player to reveal the server pill bar: [Server 1 | Server 2 | Server 3]. Click on Server 2 or Server 3 to instantly switch edge CDNs while keeping your current playback timestamp.
